Description
Summary:Tracheobronchial mucoepidermoid carcinomas are exceedingly rare and can mimic other pulmonary diseases. We report a case of a 31-year-old man initially exhibiting a three-month history of wheezing and coughing. The patient was initially diagnosed as asthmatic and treated with bronchodilators. However, further workup revealed a neoplasm measuring 2,7cm in diameter, reaching the carina and obstructing both main bronchi. Although endoscopic resection was performed, the patient needed subsequent surgical resection for complete treatment. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the trachea should be included in the differential diagnosis of patients with persistent cough and wheezing. Rapid identification and prompt treatment of this disease are crucial for a good outcome.
