Summary: | Higher incidence of diabetes has been reported following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and solid organ transplantation with rare occurrence of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). DKA in a post allogeneic stem cell transplant patient following the use of tacrolimus has not been reported. We report here two cases of thalassemia major post allogeneic HCST with liver graft versus host disease (GVHD) who developed DKA while on treatment with tacrolimus. The drug was stopped and patients were treated with intravenous fluids and insulin resulting in complete recovery of DKA. |
