Summary: | [...]although still relatively high, the mortality rate in the cholecystectomy group was the lowest (23.0%). [...]the authors argued that cholecystectomy offers a survival benefit compared with cholecystostomy. Data from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS‐NSQIP) showed that the 30‐day morbidity and mortality rates of BDI were 26.3% and 2%, respectively. In 2018, “Recommendations for the prevention of recurring medical accidents, No. 5” was published by the Medical Accident Investigation and Support Center (Japan Medical Safety Research Organization); these recommendations analyzed deaths related to complications arising from LC. [...]for unknown reasons, conversion cases generally involve some type of intraoperative problems such as bleeding, biliary injury, or unstable vital signs. [...]these factors may be the main reasons for the high surgery‐related death rate observed for OC. |
