Description
Summary:Highlights • We investigated the cumulative cases, case fatality rate and the trend in the incidence and mortality rate of VL at Gadarif State, eastern Sudan. • During 14 year duration (2002-2015), a total of 51773 patients were registered at Gadarif State with clinical and laboratory evidence proven VL. • The trend of VL has considerably increased in year 2003-2005 as compared to the last five years 2011-2015. • The highest fatality rate was observed in year 2002 (4.8%) and it declined in 2014 and 2015 of this registry. • 6- Rural residence was statistically associated with death related to VL ( P =0.021 ) • Thus immediate interventions are needed in term of health education and implementation of preventive measure with specific focusing on people of rural residence.
