Description
Summary:Highlights • This study was performed to evaluate the role of troponin in predicting long-term survival of patients with endocarditis. By using the medical database of a single care center, we reviewed 84 infective endocarditis cases, 48 of which had troponin measurements upon hospitalization. Outcome was assessed during a follow-up of 1 year, along with baseline characteristics, echocardiographic findings and complications during hospital stay. Baseline troponin levels were elevated in fatal cases, and troponin was independently associated with 1-year survival rates in these cases.
