description This paper investigates the academic literature on forms of innovation in the area of procurement in organizations. A literature review was conducted in three phases: planning the review, conducting the review, and dissemination. The first phase assessed the main authors, journals and chronology. The second phase involved exploratory investigation of the content of the articles. It is concluded that the area is heterogeneous and dispersed in journals concentrated in Western Europe and the USA. The selection of articles was defined by purposive sampling using the main databases as a source. It was observed a highlighted relevance of the technological innovation category. As social implications, it is considered that the organization of the articles content and chronology improves the understanding of the status quo of the literature in the area. It is considered as a point of originality of the research the identification of a new research area: the innovation procurement.
