A new shell element taking thickness-stretchability into account for mechanics-based springback compensation system

Summary: | To reduce springback, the coining process is often applied in sheet metal forming. However, the finite element method with a conventional shell element cannot formulate this process because of the plane stress condition. Therefore, in this study, a new shell element, which has extra nodes called pseudo-nodes, was developed to calculate the through-thickness stress. Using this element, a mechanics-based springback compensation system was constructed and tested. |
