Description
Summary:Introduction: Femoral head fractures are uncommon injury, occurring in just 5–15% of posterior hip dislocations. The current series of 3 patients with femoral head fractures associated with polytrauma and acetabular fractures are presented here to highlight their short-term clinical outcomes. Case descriptions: First patient was a 61-years man with five-month-old neglected re-dislocated posterior hip dislocation with surgically intervened posterior acetabular wall fracture. Second patient was a 26-year female with 10 days old posterior dislocation of the left hip with femoral head fracture (Pipkin's 1). Last patient was a 32-year male with floating knee (Fraser 1) with posterior dislocation of the hip (Thomas and Epstein V) with Pipkin's 4 femoral head fracture and posterior wall of acetabulum fracture right side. Conclusion: The case series highlights a favourable clinical outcome. Though the chances of the femoral head going into ONFH and advanced arthritis remains high even at a short-term follow-up of two years.
