Summary: | Introduction and objective Many scientific publications confirmed the effects of therapeutic interventions on cognitive functioning of various clinical groups and healthy individuals. As the worldwide epidemic situation was worsening many organisations decided to change the way of providing cognitive interventions – form face-to-face into on-line based. The aim of the article was to review scientific publications regarding on-line based interventions for the elderly during the time of COVID-19 pandemic, and to assess the effectiveness of these interventions. Review methods The review of current publications was carried out based on the PRISMA statement. Three databases were searched using the key words ‘cognitive functioning’ and ‘Covid 19’, limiting the publication date from 2020 – January 2022. Five articles were qualified for the review, i.e. 0.64% of all those identified. Abbreviated description of the state of knowledge In association with the ageing of societies many projects have been initiated aimed at supporting the health of the elderly and their psychological wellbeing. The attempts of cognitive interventions in various population groups at senior age contribute to the improvement of their functioning in many areas. Due to the adjustment of the way of carrying out programmes and initiatives into the on-line form the elderly are not left without specialist care, even at the time of disrupted direct contact with others. Summary Based on experience and scientific knowledge it is crucial to continue expanding new forms of cognitive interventions. Their diversity not only does improve the emotional and social well-being of the elderly, but also lessens digital exclusion of the oldest. Moreover, it contributes to neuroplasticity in the brain. However, it is crucial to standardise the way of carrying out the evaluation of therapeutic meetings in order to be able to reliably assess their effectiveness in the context of other projects. |
