Summary:Objectives. Highlighting the role of pharmacists in Romanian community pharmacies, in order to build rational approaches, and to establish the legal framework for the implementation of the pharmaceutical services. Analysis of activities carried out in community pharmacies in Romania and evaluation of the potential of pharmacists to provide quality pharmaceutical services. Results. Most pharmacists in community pharmacies in Romania provide advice on medicines and other health services, without them being acknowledged or remunerated. The implementation and recognition of the pharmaceutical service is imperative and involves the establishment of unitary, quantifiable quality standards for each service, so as to benefit the patient, the medical staff and the health system. Conclusions. Maximizing the intervention of community pharmacists in optimizing public health, by implementing pharmaceutical services, could reduce health care costs, and relieve medical staff, making it easier to manage current or crisis situations.
