Indoor calibration method for UV index meters with a solar simulator and a reference spectroradiometer

We present a calibration method of UV index meters under a solar simulator based on a spectroradiometer as reference. The reference spectroradiometer is a double-grating-based type that can measure the erythemal effective irradiance and the global UV index in a wavelength range from 250 nm to 450 nm...

Description
Summary:We present a calibration method of UV index meters under a solar simulator based on a spectroradiometer as reference. The reference spectroradiometer is a double-grating-based type that can measure the erythemal effective irradiance and the global UV index in a wavelength range from 250 nm to 450 nm. After calibration of its wavelength scale and spectral irradiance scale by using the KRISS standard lamp, we applied the spectroradiometer to measure the reference value for calibrating broadband UV index meters under a solar simulator. The uncertainty of the spectroradiometer for measuring the reference value for the global UV index is evaluated to be 5% as a relative expanded uncertainty (k = 2).
