Summary: | This study explored the relationship between male and female dance partners. Participants were 171 Hungarian competitive dancers. The study focused on how the competitors view their own partnership (how they define this relationship), how important they consider it for success, how they handle conflict, and how often they change partners. Another interesting question was the effect on achievement in competitive dancing when the partners are romantically involved and when such a couple breaks up. A comparison of partner relationships of dancers in various categories (from beginners to the best) provides interesting data for understanding the harmonious cooperation that is required for effective, long-term mutual performance. Findings suggest the importance of appropriate preparation for effective and productive conflict management and skillful cooperation with the dance partner. |
