Description
Summary:•Patients with multiple myeloma are living longer and require various supportive care measures to improve their survival outcomes and quality of life.•Various advances in managing the lytic bone disease, venous thromboembolism risk, infectious risk and toxicities associated with multiple myeloma and its treatments are available.•Future clinical trials assessing the efficacy of novel supportive care measures in improving the survival outcomes and quality of life of patients with multiple myeloma are needed. Supportive care in multiple myeloma (MM) can have a major impact on quality of life and the survival outcomes of MM patients. In this review, we will focus on disease and treatment related toxicities experienced by MM patients and what are the best approaches to date to help mitigate the effects. We will specifically focus on a practical approach to managing bone disease, thrombosis, infection risk, peripheral neuropathy, dermatologic complications, gastrointestinal and ocular toxicities, and fatigue in MM.
