Summary: | This work addresses the timing synchronization aspects in a DC-biased optical OFDM (DCO-OFDM) system which is exploiting real trigonometric transform like discrete sine transform (DST). The striking notability is that without the necessity of Hermitian Symmetry criteria, the optical OFDM system takes the advantage of real signal processing transformation techniques like DST. Furthermore, this paper compares the performance of timing synchronization algorithms exploiting the periodicity property of the DST-DCO-OFDM symbol with the training symbol-based STO estimation algorithm. Among the STO estimation algorithms, the training symbol-based STO estimation technique imparts a better mean square error when compared with that of the periodicity-based STO estimation algorithms. Moreover, this work validates the derived Cramer Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) for the timing errors. |
