Summary:Entrepreneurship is a complex and multi-dimensional phenomenon, as evidenced by multiple studies of the subject within the field of economics, as well as other sciences. An important problem in the development of entrepreneurship is identification of barriers that significantly block this process. The main purpose of this study is to present conditions and barriers in the development of entrepreneurship in Poland on a local scale, based on the example of two poviats located in the Podkarpackie voivodeship (Krosno and Jasło poviats). The main methods adopted for the purposes of this study were: desk research method and descriptive and statistical analysis of research results obtained from a diagnostic survey conducted among entrepreneurs operating in Krosno and Jasło poviats. The obtained results were subjected to statistical analysis using descriptive statistics methods, including chi-square independence test (Pearson’s chi-square test). The paper provides findings from the research and a theoretical model describing entrepreneurship and its determinants.
