Saúde bucal de pacientes internados e a importância do cirurgião dentista em ambiente hospitalar

RESUMO A internação hospitalar do paciente acontece devido a consequência de um agravo no quadro de sua saúde, seja por doenças crônicas, agudas, ou decorrendo de uma urgência ou emergência. A qualidade de vida dos pacientes e sua recuperação têm sido bem relacionadas à saúde oral e possui falta de cuidados e informações vindo da equipe responsável. Este estudo tem o propósito de analisar os cuidados de higiene bucal dos pacientes e a importância do cirurgião-dentista em âmbito hospitalar como parte da equipe multidisciplinar. Com o estudo baseado nos artigos encontrados nas bases de dados Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Portal de Revistas de Odontologia (RevOdonto) e Sistema Online de Busca e Análise de Literatura Médica (MEDLINE/Pubmed) pôde-se constatar a falta de assistência e a importância dos cirurgiões dentistas no hospital cuidando da higienização dos pacientes diariamente. Mostra também a falta de informação enfatizada aos pacientes sobre os cuidados da saúde oral, e como a equipe não está capacitada com relação a isso. ABSTRACT Patients who are admitted to hospital are in that state because they have suffered a health problem, whether due to chronic or acute illnesses, or as a result of an urgency or emergency. The quality of life of patients and their recovery has been closely linked to oral health and there is a lack of care and information from the team responsible. The purpose of this study is to analyze patients’ oral hygiene care and the importance of the dental surgeon in the hospital setting as part of the multidisciplinary team. The study, based on the articles found in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Dental Magazine Portal (RevOdonto) and Online Medical Literature Search and Analysis System (MEDLINE/Pubmed) databases, revealed the lack of assistance and the importance of dental surgeons in the hospital taking care of the hygiene of patients on a daily basis, showing the lack of information emphasized to patients about oral health care, and how the team is not trained in this regard.
