Summary: | Kwashiorkor syndrome is a form of severe protein-energy malnutrition characterized by protein deficiency and bilateral extremity swelling. Worldwide, most affected regions include Southeast Asia, South Africa and Central America; it is rare in developed countries such as the USA.
