Summary:In the title compound, [CdI2(C12H12N2)(C3H7NO)], the CdII cation is five-coordinated in a distorted trigonal–bipyramidal configuration by two N atoms from a 4,4′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand, one O atom from a dimethylformamide ligand and two I− anions. π–π stacking between pyridine rings of adjacent molecules [centroid–centroid distance = 3.666 (3) and 3.709 (4) Å] stabilizes the three-dimensional structure
