Field evaluation of an iELISA and CF test for detection of IgG antibodies against Chlamydophila abortus in goats, sheep and rams

Blood sera samples from 99 clinically healthy goats, 230 ewes and 171 rams were investigated by complement fixation test (CFT) and indirect ELISA for the presence of IgG antibodies against Chlamydophila abortus. When comparing the use of CFT and iELISA, the seroprevalences were detected as follows:...

Description
Summary:Blood sera samples from 99 clinically healthy goats, 230 ewes and 171 rams were investigated by complement fixation test (CFT) and indirect ELISA for the presence of IgG antibodies against Chlamydophila abortus. When comparing the use of CFT and iELISA, the seroprevalences were detected as follows: 3.03 and 24.24 % in goats, 3.04 and 11.3 % in ewes, 0 and 5.3 % in rams, respectively. Indirect ELISA was comparatively more sensitive than CFT in all three groups of animals. The iELISA may be used for screening at herd level like CFT, as there was moderate agreement (kappa=0.426) between these two tests.
