GOLES POR LA PAZ. EVENTOS FUTBOLÍSTICOS DE AMISTAD PERUANO-CHILENA A FINES DEL ONCENIO DE LEGUÍA (1927-1929)

Esta investigación intenta desterrar imaginarios fijados en conflictos históricos entre Perú y Chile, que, generalmente, remiten a la Guerra del Pacífico (1879-1883). En primer lugar, el trabajo busca analizar el papel que jugó el fútbol dentro del proceso de acercamiento bilateral con Chile que mantuvo el presidente peruano Augusto B. Leguía durante sus últimos años en el poder antes de ser derrocado (1927-1929). El artículo intenta demostrar que estos intercambios deportivos permitieron –en alguna medida– empezar a construir un sentimiento de fraternidad entre ambos luego de un periodo de tensión diplomática de casi 50 años por la cuestión irresuelta de Tacna y Arica. Del mismo modo, analiza el impacto que estos hechos tuvieron en la prensa deportiva de ambos países, al exponer el amplio número de notas, crónicas, entrevistas y reportajes que aparecieron en los contenidos de los principales medios durante el tiempo en que los clubes permanecieron en territorio extranjero. This article aims to unearth the imaginaries of the historic conflicts between Peru and Chile, which generally refer back to the War of the Pacific (1879-1883). It analyzes the role played by soccer in the bilateral détente process under Peruvian President Augusto B. Leguía in the final years before his overthrow (1927-1929). The article aims to demonstrate that these athletic exchanges –to a certain extent– allowed for the construction of a feeling of fraternity between the two countries after a nearly fifty-year period of diplomatic tension due to the unresolved issue of sovereignty over Tacna and Arica. It also analyzes the impact of these events on the sports press in both countries through the large number of articles, chronicles, interviews and reports that appeared in major media outlets while soccer clubs toured abroad.
