Summary: | Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was used as an efficient, and environmentally friendly catalyst for the solvent-free three-component synthesis of quinazolinone derivatives by condensation of 2-aminobenzimidazole, dimedone or 1,3-cyclohexanedione, and different aldehydes. The catalyst was recovered easily, and reused without significant loss of its activity. Solvent-free and mild reaction conditions, nontoxic-, biodegradable-, and inexpensive catalyst, environmentally benign method, and high to excellent yields are some important features of this protocol. |
