Summary: | The research was carried out in the South-Sulawesi to find main medicinal plants used in traditional medicine for anticancer treatment. Some local traditional experts had been interviewed about the medicinal plants for the indicated diseases, including some herbal healers. The collections of medicinal plants were then summarized in one synoptic table, which contains scientific, vernacular and common name, parts of the plant, medical preparation and the therapeutic indication. Screening had been done for various concentrations by using HeLa and colon cell cancer. Based on these results, we conclude that crude extracts of Anting-anting (Acalypha indica Linn.), Daruju (Acanthus ilicifolius Linn.), Parrang Romang (Boehmeria virgata (Forst) Guill) and Kesambi (Schleichera oleosa, Merr) were exhibited significant antiproliferative activities and properties that support folkloric use in the treatment of some diseases as anticancer agents. This is one explanation of popular usage of these plants by indigenous people for anticancer treatment. |
