Summary: | The problem discussed is that of establishing two dime sional systems of differential equations for stresses and displacements of thin elastic shells from the known equations of linear three-dimensional elasticity. The method used is that of dimensional analysis together with expansion in powers of a dimensionless parameter of the solution of the equations of the three-dimensional theory for the semi-infinite cylindrical shell under self-equilibrating end loading.
