Summary: | Preliminary phase delay time residuals have been calculated for Rayleigh surface waves of an earthquake originating on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at the equator and crossing the U.S. from east to west. Phase velocities over selected regions of the North American continent are compared with previous results. Correlation is good except in the Western U.S. where some disagreemen is present. Transmission coefficients for two-dimensional Rayleigh waves travelling around a corner are obtained. These show a symmetry in transmission ratio and an antisymmetry in phase shift as predicted by first order approximate theory. (Author) |
