Summary: | The studied locust receptors are mechanoreceptors which, by the nature of their response, somewhat resemble certain tactile receptors in the paws of the fly. The essential factor for the activation of the receptor is the static shifting, and not the vibration of the cilium which occurs during its subjection to blowing of air. These receptors belong in the group of slowly adapting receptors and the final frequency of the order of 50-70 imp/sec, apparently, is adequate for the maintenance of the active state of the system which controls the flight of the insect.
