Summary: | A transient analysis of laser-induced forward scattering instabilities is presented with emphasis upon heat-deposition-induced stimulated Rayleigh scattering. The theory presented provides a link between previously presented instability analyses in the short-pulse and steady-state limits. It is shown that the time required to reach the steady state is of the order of the reciprocal line width of the material excitation multiplied by the total gain. (Author) |
