Summary:The interaction of molybdenum with active gases was studied under conditions of hot working under vacuum and in inert media during the heating, forming, and cooling stages. Conditions for non-oxidizing rolling of Mo were analyzed thermodynamically: the equilibrium pressures in the temperature range of hot working, and the isobaric-isothermal potentials of their formation were calculated. Study of the kinetics of Mo oxidation under different partial pressures corresponding to given vacuums showed oxide film thickness depends on oxygen pressure. Comparison of gas saturation of the Mo after heating in air and under high and low pressure by x-ray examination of cell size of the metalloceramic Mo showed there was no gas saturation of the metal. This was confirmed by microhardness data. The use of low vacuum is recommended in the hot working of metalloceramic bars (8 mm thick). High temperature plastic deformation in low vacuum is apparently also suitable for other metals such as tungsten, rhenium, nickel, and copper.
