description A gamma-ray spectrograph, designed for use in very intense radiation fields generated by pulsed sources, has been tested in the mixed gamma-ray and neutron field of the Harry Diamond Laboratories pulsed reactor, DORF. This memorandum report presents details of the instrumentation used, results on the effectiveness of the mixed field shield-collimator design, and proof of the feasibility of gamma-ray spectrum measurements in either pulsed or steady-state reactor fields. Counting, rate-meter, and analog circuits each performed satisfactorily. However, the shield-collimator design was not satisfactory and it was necessary to make spectrum measurements with eight inches of water interposed between the spectrograph and the reactor core. Necessary changes in the shielding and collimator configurations are discussed. (Author)
