Description
Summary:A method for the generation of a realistic representation of an ocean parameter is outlined. The particular parameter chosen is the swell-induced magnetic field vector in a shallow sea. The method can be applied to other parameters such as ambient acoustic pressure, and velocity field noises. Starting from a periodic representation of the swell-induced magnetic field, the simulation of the random time behavior of the parameter is obtained by amplitude modulation of a superposition of these periodic functions. This superposition is designed to produce a function with a frequency range comparable to the swell frequency band. The modulation is applied intermittently at random instants of time. This approximation of the three Cartesian components of the swell-induced magnetic field has been calculated for the purpose of providing a background noise signal for a test of a proposed signal analysis scheme.
