Summary:This monograph deals with contemporary approaches to the problem of optimum shock and vibration isolation design. Isolation devices act to reduce the unwanted effects of shock and vibration disturbances on critical elements of a mechanical system. The problem of optimum design has to do with the selection of isolators that cause an index of the system performance to be optimized; that is, to take on a value either less or greater than that associated with other candidate isolators. In addition, the optimum design usually must satisfy constraints which are imposed on other aspects of the system response and the parameters which describe the isolators.
