Synthesis of a Low-Ash Sulphonate Additive Based on Extracts from the Phenol Refining of Oils and Its Operational Properties
An investigation was made of the possiblity of synthesizing low-ash barium sulphonate from the extracts of the phenol refining of distilled oils. Summary: | An investigation was made of the possiblity of synthesizing low-ash barium sulphonate from the extracts of the phenol refining of distilled oils. The extracts were sulphonated with 20-25 percent of oleum containing 18-20 percent free SO3, at 40-50 degrees centigrade. The sulphonated extract during sedimentation is devided into two layers. The upper layer is a concentrate of predominantly monosulphonic acid, and the lower - with acid goudron. The monosulphonic acids separated from the goudron by decantation were neutralized by the crystalline barium hydroxide at 30-40 degrees centigrade. Then, the barium salts from the sulphonic acids received kept at 120 degrees centigrade for 4 hours. Mechanical impurities were separated by centrifugal separation. (Author)
