Summary: | An account is made of the cumulative experiences in an oscillating-flow wind tunnel concerning the direct forced response of laminar boundary layers to free-stream oscillations. The theory and experiment provide a level of confidence in the concepts. The existence of a periodic, jet-like phenomenon in a downstream-facing locally separated region was confirmed for amplitudes above an ill-defined threshold. By seeding controlled disturbances at arbitrary times and locations in the boundary layer a dichotomy in transition correlation is clarified.
