Summary:Vigilance performance has been shown to be enhanced by numerous types of environmental changes. The study evaluates the effects of a cyclically changing temperature on monitoring behavior and physiological responses of man. Vigilance performance was not enhanced by the use of variable temperature conditions of the study. Rather, the variable temperature in conjunction with a heavy food intake was shown to adversely affect both heart rate and vigilance task performance measures.
