Description
Summary:The purpose of this program is the study and evaluation of the tetrahedron beam geometry for application in microwave tubes. The elements to generate and maintain a tetrahedron beam are the electron gun and the quadrupole lenses. A new low convergent flat beam gun was developed and perfected. This gun as well as the high convergent gun produced well defined second line foci. The positioning of klystron cavities along the tetrahedron beam is discussed. Improved electron current gain per stage for tetrahedron flow is expected, which more than compensates for the low HF impedance of the flat beam cavities. A comparison with Brillouin flow is made. The better organized electron motion in tetrahedron flow can improve klystron efficiency by selective interception in the last drift tube, as a result of space charge cross modulation. (Author)
