description | The report describes the work done in a program in which solid state switching and multiplexed signal transmission concepts were applied to a complete aircraft electrical system. The solid state electrical system and a conventional system that utilizes conventional switches, circuit breakers and electromechanical relays were compared from both physical and functional standpoints. Solid state devices were used to perform circuit protection, power control, switching logic and position sensing functions. The multiplexed signal transmission system receives inputs into remote input terminals from signal sources and supplies the control signal to power controllers through remote output terminals. The multiplexing system is under the control of an electrically reprogrammable processor. The report summarizes the design consideration, fabrication and electrical checkout of the solid state simulator, compares test results from each simulator and provides conclusions and recommendations.
