Summary: | The Drexel University program in powder metallurgy (under project THEMIS) involves an integrated and concurrent study of closely-related topics. These represent major critical steps and/or problem areas in a wide variety of powder metallurgy processes. Current major areas of study involve: analytic and experimental approaches to atomization; compaction of metals and ceramics with particular reference to the effects of combined states of stress; preform forging of aluminum and iron-base alloys; processing of superalloy powders and tungsten-heavy metal alloys; detailed processing-structure-property correlations; systems analysis of specific powder metallurgy processes. Significant developments, current research, and planned future activities are detailed for the various phases of the overall program. Program organization and the many aspects of technical liaison with government and industry are updated. (Author) |
