Summary: | The influence of microstructure upon fracture mode and relative fragmentation performance of steel test cylinders was assessed fractographically by scanning electron microscopy. For the compositions used in this study, a microstructural constituent which provides a path for brittle fracture under dynamic conditions appears to be a necessity for enhanced fragmentation. |
