Description
Summary:This program in powder metallurgy involves an integrated and concurrent study of closely-related topics representing major critical steps and/or problem areas in a wide variety of powder metallurgy processes. In this report, attention is directed to on-going studies in the following areas: analytic and experimental studies of powder production by quench atomization; application of triaxial compaction to single oxide ceramic powders without binder additions, a coupled mechanics/metallurgy approach to the design (optimization) of powder forging processes; the processing and structural characterization of powder processed Astroloy; a systems analysis of carbon steel sheet production from scrap via atomized powder. The status of current research and planned future activities are detailed in each of these areas. (Author)
