Summary:Physical properties of chemical warfare agents are of interest to the chemical warfare defense community so that inhalation toxicity, performance of protective equipment, and environmental behavior may be accurately evaluated, and the most- appropriate surrogates may be selected for testing purposes. Thermophysical properties, including vapor pressure, density, viscosity, surface tension, and flash point, are reported for 2,2-dimethylcyclopentyl methylphosphonofluoridate (GP; Chemical Abstracts Service [CAS] no. 453574-97-5). Density data above the melting point, and vapor pressure of the liquid and solid phases are also reported for 2,2-dimethylcyclopentanol (DMCP; CAS no. 37617-33-7), which is the precursor of GP. Correlations were derived from the experimental vapor pressure data and were used to calculate the temperature-dependent enthalpy of vaporization, volatility, and entropy of vaporization for both compounds and the enthalpy of fusion and sublimation of DMCP below its melting point. Temperature correlations were determined for the liquid densities of both compounds and for the viscosity of GP.
