Summary: | Microdensitometric film reduction, analysis and display techniques, and digital computer analysis and display were applied to solar surface radiance data. Photographs of sunspot activity were converted to isophote contour maps and ditital optical density arrays recorded on magnetic tape. Edge discrimination and background-correction procedures were developed to semi-automatically determine sunspot area and integrated light deficit from these digital data. Sample results of the methods developed are given. |
