Description
Summary:This report describes methods fro reducing costs in grinding jet engine components using computer control with grinding force sensors to obtain improved gridning performance. Multioperation grinding using two wheelheads on the same cross slide as well as on separate slides is discussed. A method for eliminating thermal size errors is presented. Formulas are given for estimating grinding cycles, stock-removal rates & wheelwear rates for both normal workspeed grinding and creep feed grinding. The computer, with the force sensors, can monitor differential wheelwear and thereby prevent form errors. Wheel sharpness can also be monitored to avoid thermal damage. (Author)
