Summary: | The molecular model for crack growth in SiO2 has been extended to other materials. An electrostatic model for crack growth has been developed to explain high velocity behavior in silicate glasses. Effects of internal stresses in ferroelectric barium titanate have been demonstrated. Indentation fracture studies have been initiated on multilayer capacitors in order to correlate crack-like defects with electrical failures. (Author) |
