Summary: | A new assumed stress hybrid finite element method, based on a complementary energy principle, has been developed for stress as well as fracture analyses of angle-ply laminates. The loading cases can include inplane as well as general bending loads. In this method, the fully three-dimensional stress-state (including the transverse shear and normal stresses) in each lamina is accounted for; the mixed-mode stress and strain singularities near the crack front, the intensities of which vary within each ply in the thickness direction of the laminate, are embedded in special elements near the crack-front. |
