Description
Summary:Respiration is one of the physiological functions of concern when a patient is under examination or treatment. A clinical relationship between respiratory sounds and gross respiratory pathology was established in the nineteenth century. Auscultation of respiratory sounds, however, is very subjective. Due to the subjectiveness, there are varying degrees of acceptance of respiratory sounds as a clinical sign. to alleviate the problem, various researchers have studied respiratory sounds to explore and develop automated methods for analysis and diagnosis of pulmonary diseases. The objective is to determine whether respiratory sound data of normal volunteers and pulmonary insufficiency subjects reveals groupings or clusters of the data. Patient data was obtained from the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks Air Force Base, Texas. The study is a blind study since the classification (normal/pulmonary insufficiency) of the subjects was not revealed.
