Summary:The objectives of this workshop were to review the ongoing work on the effects of the various forms of energy, other than thermal and external stresses on the mechanical behavior of materials, and to identify critical technical issues which must be addressed to make a headway to understand the mechanisms involved in these effects and exploit this emerging technology. The program started with the considerations of the fundamental mechanisms relevant to the physical effects to be discussed, followed by the discussion of the mechanisms involved in specific mechanical effects and a full session on the materials processing. The spirit of this workshop is to exclude from its scope the thermally and mechanically induced effects.
