Description
Summary:1,1' -Thiobis2-cloroethane (bis(2-chloroethyl)sulfide, sulfur mustard, H) causes skin, respiratory and eye injury land has been identified as being mutagenic and carcinogenic. The development of topical protectants that can decrease the effects of cutaneous exposure to vesicating chemical warfare agents or that may enhance the effectiveness of decontamination through limiting penetration to the skin should significantly enhance a soldier's ability to carry out his or her job in a chemically hostile environment. Preliminary in vivo studies with a small number of candidate topical protectants demonstrated that they could provide protection against several different chemical agents.
