Summary: | Under the proof-of-principle program for the development of a wide area mine (WAM), the US Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station was responsible for characterization of the temperature environment in which WAM developmental tests would be conducted. The principal temperate area for WAM testing was designated to be the US Army Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. This report presents data that characterize terrain and environmental factors expected to affect WAM sensor performance. Field measurements were made before and during the conduct of WAM captive flight tests and ground sensor data acquisition exercises. Measurements included soil and seismic tests, a quantitative vegetation survey, thermal terrain characterization measurements, and the collection of onsite meteorological data.
