Summary: | The goals of this project involve the use of innovative acoustic techniques to study new materials and new developments in solid state physics. Major accomplishments include (a) the publication of two book chapters and three papers, including one in the prestigious Journal Appl. Phys. Lett. on the measurement of the elastic constants of titanium diboride using resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS); (b) the successful completion of the Ph.D. degree for Philip S. Spoor and the distribution of his thesis as a technical report; (c) the completion of preliminary calculations and experiments in the application of RUS for studying thin films;. and (d) a significant enhancement of the liquid coalescence experiment, providing new and interesting results. |
