Description
Summary:An electron spectrometer has been designed to measure electron flux in the range of 3 to 30 MeV. A breadboard unit was designed and tested, using a solid state detector telescope for geometric factor definition and a Cerenkov radiator/PMT for energy measurement. The measured response to electrons was very broad, so the Cerenkov radiator was redesigned as a larger volume with larger PMTs to improve the energy resolution. The modified Cerenkov radiator/PMT assembly was tested, and a protoflight unit is being fabricated. The protoflight electron spectrometer was originally scheduled to be integrated to the Small Onboard Environmental Diagnostic Sensors (SOBEDS) Package, but this has been canceled. The protoflight is mostly complete, except for the spacecraft electrical interface design, which is on hold until a spacecraft interface is specified.
