Summary: | Thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems are the most effective means of protecting structural components from damage caused by excessive temperature and corrosive/erosive environments. The applications for TBCs range from gas turbines and power generators to space and military equipment. As the durability and performance of high temperature components rely more and more on TBCs, the capability of these coatings has become an important variable in the design and development of life prediction models for advanced components that are subject to high temperatures and aggressive environments in service.
